Cecropis daurica
Also known as: Cecropsis daurica
Habitat
Open, often hilly areas with clearings and cultivation
Range
Eastern and south-eastern Asia to north-eastern India and Taiwan
The red-rumped swallow (here treated as the eastern red-rumped swallow) is found in open, often hilly, areas with clearings and cultivation across eastern and south-eastern Asia to north-eastern India and Taiwan. The European and African red-rumped swallows were formerly considered subspecies of it, and the splits mean the name is applied differently in different checklists (Wikipedia, general species account).
It was described in 1769 from a specimen from near Zmeinogorsk in Russia, and the species name refers to Dauria, a region east of Lake Baikal (Wikipedia, general species account).
