Habitat

Arctic tundra to the tropics, including cities

Range

Nearly worldwide except extreme polar regions, high mountains and most tropical rainforests

The peregrine falcon is a large, crow-sized falcon known for its speed, with a blue-grey back, barred white underparts and a black head. Females are considerably larger than males. It is the world's most widespread raptor, breeding from Arctic tundra to the tropics and absent only from extreme polar regions, very high mountains, most tropical rainforests and New Zealand (Wikipedia, general species account).

It does well in cities, using tall buildings as nest sites and feeding on abundant pigeons and ducks. Both the English and scientific names mean wandering falcon, referring to the migratory habits of many northern populations. Eighteen or 19 regional subspecies are recognised (Wikipedia, general species account).
