Pseudorca crassidens
Habitat
Deep offshore water; oceans worldwide but mainly tropical
Size
Up to about 6m
The false killer whale is an oceanic dolphin and the only extant member of its genus. It is found in oceans worldwide but mainly in tropical regions, and reaches a maximum length of about 6 m, though size varies around the world. It was first described in 1846 as a porpoise from a skull, and the name comes from a skull similar to that of the orca (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is highly sociable and often seen in groups of more than ten, and spends time in deep offshore water (Jefferson et al. 2008, as cited by de Vos et al. 2012).
